Personally this comes across to me as the Portal 2 Companion Cube; a hollow shell of the more heartfelt version you remember from before, redesigned specifically to seem artificial and factory made by the taunting god figure that's trying to make you flinch so she can rub it in your face. The old Cube may have been a regular Storage Cube with a pink heart taped on, but "she" focused on the presentation because the test required you to depend on "her". The new one is intentionally sleek and lifeless just to fuck with those old emotions
